Reel Twenty-10

Title: Reel Twenty-Ten
Client: Various including: Jaguar, Bentley, Nokia and Burt's Bees
Role: Director, Creative Designer, Animation Director, Motion Graphic Animator and Editor

This is my new reel for Twenty 10. It features a whole range of commercial and personal work from the past 2 years. For this reel I wanted to continue on from last year, so that rather than edit lots of shots from loads of projects, I wanted to show little sequences of some of the projects I have done, to give a bit of a flavour of the film I made. I always go through loads of different tracks trying to find the right tone for an edit and this time Trentemoller was perfect. I also had help from good friend and talented photographer Gerry Alexis who provided the light writing.

Burt's Bees

Title: Burt's Bees
Client: Burt's Bees
Production Co: Broken Antler
Role: Director, Designer, Animator

I’ll be honest I hadn’t heard of Burt’s Bees until I was commissioned to create a brand film for Burt and I hadn’t expected the lengthily render time either. Seeing as Burt is all about doing things the natural way, I wanted to get up close and personal with what inspires him and his beauty products. Using photos and creating the environment in After-Effects the film, a slow-motion look at nature, took 30+ hours to render, so luckily for me they were very happy with the film and didn’t require much tweaking. Music by the very talented Laura Gibson "Come the Storm" which isn't what was offical used. I'm just using it because it's beautiful and I think it really works with this film.

The Can can

Title: The Can can
Client: Impress
Agency: MTJ Media
Production Co: Broken Antler
Role: Director, Designer, Director

I was asked to produce a film to highlight the recyclable qualities of the household metal can. The brief was that this film needed to be simple and easy to understand. I was told that the ‘Impress’ client was so pleased with the film he actually said on the first day of viewing ““I have watched the film 30 or so times already and it just keeps getting better.” Feels good to have made such an impress-ion! (Couldn't resist)

Showgirl

Title: Showgirl
Client: Tiffin Beats
Agency: Radar Music Video
Production Co: Broken Antler
Role: Director

Commissioned by Tiffin Beats Records to direct the second single for debut artist Mumzy Stranger I was inspired by the idea of recreating London in a Frank Miller and Banksy style.I used London’s famous landmarks and landscape as the backdrop to what I think is essentially a bit of a love story. The whole video was shot on green screen at Denmark Studios and then London was re-created and composited within After-Effects and then cut and coloured in FCP.

Project Victoria

Title: Project Victoria
Client: Bentley
Agency: Connect
Production Co: Satsuma Sounds
Role: Creative, Motion Graphics Designer + Editor

Working with long time friend and cgi whizz Chris Syborn we we’re given 7 days to complete a promo for Bentley’s new car code name ‘Victoria’. The brief was to produce a promo that was inspired by light and dark demonstrated the speed of the new Bentley. The snag was that due to some complications they didn’t have a prototype car to film or photograph. All we had was some very complex CAD data, some stock footage and our imaginations.

Make A Difference

Title: Make A Difference

Production Co: Tangerine Films
Role: Animation Director

This was a tough but very enjoyable project to work on. The brief was to produce a short film explaining ‘Carbon Offsetting’ and why Land-Rover has adopted this to help reduce their ‘Carbon Footprint’. Using entirely recycled imagery a team of animators and illustrators set about creating a virtual world to this short film.

XF Tech Films

Title: XF Tech Films
Client: Jaguar
Agency: EuroRSCG
Production Co: Tangerine Films
Role: Motion Graphics Designer + Editor

‘What Car of the Year 2008 ‘ was Jaguar’s New XF. Having worked on the C-XF concept car promos I was invited back by Tangerine Films to work on the design and look of the Tech Films for the new XF. The brief was to deliver an informative film which also delivered the Jaguar brand message. The inspiration was the idea of working with sound design as apposed to a music track.

Chefs and the City

Title: Chefs and the City
Client: UKTV
Production Co: Hamma and Glamma
Role: Titles Designer

I was commissioned by Hamma and Glamma to produce the titles for their cooking show, which pit a celebrity chef against a city dweller in the ultimate cook off. I liked the idea of kitchen utensils lined up on a table could be made to look like a cityscape at night. Working from here these were the titles created for the show.

Those Were The Days

Title: Those Were The Days
Client: ITV
Production Co: Hamma and Glamma
Role: Animation Titles Designer

Commissioned by Hamma and Glamma to create a titles package for their ITV show reminiscing about the past. Since a big part of the show had film projected footage to help tell the story it seemed like the perfect place to start.

Title: C-FX
Client: Jaguar
Agency: EuroRSCG
Production Co: Tangerine Films
Role: Editor

Working closely with Director Gary Holden, I edited all the promos spots for the C-FX. Later to become the award winning XF, we needed to demonstrate the cutting edge design of the new Jaguar design brand.

Need More Space

Title: Need More Space
Client: Storage King
Agency: Pure Media
Production Co: Broken Antler
Role: Director

The brief was to promote the advantages of using a storage unit and after much consideration I decided to play on the stereotypes of men and women for a lighter less hard sell approach. Shot in Oxford, post was all done at Broken Post in Avid and After-Effects. The cheesy radio ad track I was forced to use. Don’t blame me, although for some reason I think it actually works!

Showreel.07

This reel is a couple of years old but does feature quite a variety of work produced over the past 5 years. It’s more of an edited reel compared to my latest reel, which showcases fewer projects but show more of them.
